Edible Finger Paints

I *thought* I had a recipe for edible finger paint but it turns out to have "laundry flakes" so here's a couple links to a bunch of recipes:

Pudding Paint

What you need:
• Instant Vanilla Pudding
• Food Coloring
What to do:
Mix pudding according to directions.
Add food coloring for desired color.
Finger paint on paper plates.
Completely Edible!

Kool-Aid Finger Paint

What you need:
• 2 cups flour
• 2 packs unsweetened Kool-Aid
• 1/2 cup salt
3 cups boiling water
• 3T. oil
What to do:
Mix wet into dry.

Jello Finger Paint

What you need:
• Any kind of flavored jello
• Boiling water
What to do:
Mix jello into boiling water until it is a goo consistency for fingerpaint. Use normal fingerpainting material or glossy paper. Kids love the smell and feel of it.

***Caution-when using anything with food coloring remember they are DYES and can create quite a mess-since they are water soluble dyes they should come out of clothes but it can be hard (however they are permanent in animal fibers such as wool and silk)***

Various Playdough recipes collected from various places

Play dough
Equal parts:
Peanut butter
Powdered milk
Honey
(flour to help mix)

This is from Teaching Montessori in the Home: The Preschool Years:
3 C Flour
1 C salt
1 C water (w/coloring)
1 Tbs oil
Mix flour and salt, add water and oil gradually, mixing until proper consistency is reached. This can be kept in the refrigerator when not in use.


Kool-Aid Play Dough
1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
3 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
1 package Kool-Aid Mix (any flavor of unsweetened)
1 tablespoon cooking oil

Mix dry ingredients together in a large saucepan. Slowly add water mixed with oil and stir over medium heat until mixture thickens to dough. Turn out onto a heatproof bread board or counter top and knead until cool enough for children to handle. Dough will be the color of the Kool-Aid mix and will smell like the Kool-Aid mix. (Can be stored in a tightly covered container for up to six months)

Jell-O Play Dough

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tablespoon oil
2 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
1 (3-1/2 oz.) package "unsweetened" Jell-O

Mix all ingredients together and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until consistency of mashed potatoes. Let cool and knead with floured hands until dry.

Storage: This recipe needs to cool completely "before" storing it in an airtight container!

Note: The items made from this play dough recipe can be painted when they are dry.

Independence Day Craft

We were able to go to a story time at a fun book store today and we heard stories about the 4th of July (Independence Day). Monkey didn't really listen because he was too busy practicing walking. That's right-we finally have a walker! He's 14.5 months and started walking last night! We made a fun craft-an American flag. It was a really simple one with a few stripes and a square. We colored it and then glued in pieces of tissue paper.


It was more of a craft for mommy but it was the first time that Monkey figured out how to color with a marker (with my help).
